NU Business Students Take Top Prize at Wharton Case Competition
3rd December 201211/2012
A team of undergraduate students in the Huntington Management Consulting (NUHMC) took first place in an extremely competitive case competition hosted at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania on October 12, 2012. The students who represented Northeastern University in this intercollegiate competition where: Bree Jones, class of 2013, and Jed Baker, Jake Wainwright and Joe Haniak, all class of 2014.
The theme for this year’s conference was “Charting your Career in Consulting”, a statement which represents Wharton’s overall goal to educate conference attendees on the breadth of the consulting industry. The undergraduate teams were tasked with the complex challenge of restructuring a private wealth management company merger and presenting their solution to a panel of judges from the consulting industry. The Northeastern team’s presentation incorporated not only an overall strategic restructuring plan, but also a blueprint for transitioning some employees to new assignments and responsibilities that would make the company stronger and more efficient.
Competing teams were from the University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, University of Toronto, McGill University, University of North Carolina, Duke University, Rutgers University, New York University, and Northeastern University.
When asked, “How did it feel to come out on top against many Ivy League schools?” Joe Haniak replied by saying, “It definitely felt good. To go down there against so many great schools and win for the brand new D’Amore McKim School was a great feeling!”
