To overcome simplistic approaches to Diversity & Inclusion and to understand if and how these practices can concretely affect the quality of the work and results of the Finance function. This is the aim of the research “The impact of diversity and inclusion on management control and corporate disclosure: the role of finance”, funded by the MUR (PRIN 2022) and presented on 22 October in the Pius XI Hall of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart.
The project, coordinated by Angela Kate Pettinicchio with Barbara Imperatori and Mario Daniele (professors of the University’s Faculty of Economics), involved two other research teams: that of the Università Bocconi, led by Angelo Ditillo, and that of the Università di Bologna, represented by Eleonora Monaco. Together they analyzed how diversity and inclusion within finance teams – and in particular in the role of CFOs – influence corporate transparency and the quality of accounting information.
“The project aimed to understand whether D&I management practices can make a difference with respect to the results and working methods of the Finance function,” explained Prof. Barbara Imperatori, emphasizing the importance of a transdisciplinary approach that intertwines human resources, operational processes and organizational culture.

First Irish Annual Doctoral Colloquium in Finance at DCU Business School
The First Irish Annual Doctoral Colloquium in Finance was hosted at DCU Business School, and organized by finLAB at the DCU Institute for Business and Society in collaboration with the Irish Academy of Finance (IAF), and it was truly an amazing experience!
The event brought together PhD students and faculty from universities across Ireland (and beyond) for a full day of research presentations, discussions, and networking. The quality of the papers, the thoughtful feedback, and the collegial atmosphere made this inaugural colloquium a real success.
A heartfelt thank-you to our keynote speakers, Prof. Michael Dowling and Professor Chandra Thapa, for their inspiring talks, and to Prof. Dominic Elliott, Prof. Geraldine Ryan, Prof. Colm O’Gorman, Dr. Sandeep Rao, Prof. Julie Byrne, all members of our Advisory and Scientific Committees and our colleagues from other universities for their invaluable support.
Special thanks also to our finLAB team for their exceptional contribution throughout the day, actively supporting sessions, engaging with participants, and helping make the colloquium run so smoothly.
And of course, sincere thanks to all PhD presenters and discussants whose energy, ideas, and collaboration made the event so vibrant and engaging.
I’m very proud of what we achieved together, and even more excited to see how this colloquium will grow into an annual tradition for Ireland’s finance research community.
