Reutlingen University raised more than 10 million euros in third-party funding for research projects in 2025 – more than ever before.

In addition, there will be a further 2.64 million euros for scientific equipment and the expansion of our research infrastructure.

Behind these figures are above all people, ideas and a lot of innovative strength: More than 140 scientific employees are currently researching together with our professors in almost 120 projects – from artificial intelligence, digitization and biomedicine to energy, innovative materials and sustainable management.

“Our research figures make it clear what innovative strength we have,” says Prof. Dr. Stephan Seiter Seiter, Vice President for Research and Transfer at Reutlingen University. “In doing so, we remain true to what we do best as a university of applied sciences: application-oriented and practice-oriented research for and with companies, closely interlinked with teaching and on topics that concern us all.”

💚 The university is thus consolidating its position as one of the most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg.

Obituary for Prof. Dr. Hans J. Tümmers (1944-2026)

The ESB Business School at Reutlingen University mourns the loss of its founding dean, Prof. Dr. Hans J. Tümmers, who passed away on August 31, 2026 at the age of 82. With him, the faculty and the university lose a personality who shaped the development of the ESB far beyond his own term of office.

Hans Tümmers came to Reutlingen University as a lecturer in 1973. In 1976, as a young professor, he took over the office of Dean of the Department of Foreign Trade. And as early as 1978, together with his colleagues, he developed the idea of a European, internationally integrated study programme. In 1979, he finally became the founding dean of the new ESB department.

Hans Tümmers was one of those people who did not only work in existing structures. It created new, almost disruptive structures, anticipating developments that would only become a natural part of European higher education years later. With the founding of the “European Study Programme for Business Administration” in 1979, the first international double degree programme in business administration was created in Germany.
